A cult can be said to emanate from great and excessive admiration or belief in a person or idea. This could be manifested in rituals, praise songs, chants and worship. It is an unquestionable practice that may be difficult to dislodge even with superior argument.
Secret cult could therefore be defined as a set of practices, belief system or idea whose essence is known only to the inner members and excessively admired and defended even to the point of laying down one’s life. Secret cult groups have in recent years expanded fast, become bold, and gradually becoming a societal norm. They have been left largely unchecked by the security agencies thus operating in such ways that they cannot be described as a ‘secret cult’ any longer but a cult group.
The menace of cultism in Nigeria society, Kogi in particular and our institutions in general has reached an alarming stage that requires actions from all stakeholders.
The scourge of cultism in Kogi has claimed many lives, mostly youths, not less than five youths were murdered by rival cult many areas in Kogi (Idah, Lokoja and others within)
The activities of this group in our once peaceful state need drastic measures that no serious authority can fold it arms and allow it to continue.
It appears that various efforts in curbing the proliferation of the evil act have yielding no result as more youths who engaged themselves in cultism are daily losing their lives.
Recently, three able youth (name withheld) were murdered; two of which were alleged to have killed over ” battle of supremacy” and dumped at the river Niger.
The corruption in most of our political life and the introduction of thuggery has finally subdued our community, which used to be the pride abode in the past.
Most families, especially the residence of what is known as ” Traditional wards”; B,C,D& E are astonished to find out that children sent to schools to learn and become better human being in the society have initiated themselves –
into cult groups.
We must all raise against this evil act by aiding the security agent through community policing, our traditional leaders most raise to their responsibilities by exposing all criminals leaving within their domain.
We all know them, harbouring the perpetrators of this evils acts has been the major factors that is now threatening our peaceful co-existence.
I commend the security agent for apprehending the some suspects who were alleged to have heartless murdered two youths and dumped them at the river Niger.
We learnt that some suspects have made a confessional statement that will led to arrest of some of their comrades in crime, who are currently at large.
Justice must be allow to take it cause so that it’ll be a lesson to others.
