The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) Monday reverse itself earlier decision on Kogi Central Senatorial re-run election as it declared Alhaji Ahmed Ogembe of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) winner.
It would be recalled that the election was declared inconclusive on Sunday following cancellations of results in some areas.
But declaring the result yesterday, in Okene the senatorial headquarters of central, the returning officer, Professor Rotimi Ajayi said areas which where initially cancelled, the presiding officers in charge of those has copies of the result that was torn when violence broke out at the collation center.
He stressed that they were able to make use of that result sheet from presiding officers which shows that the PDP senatorial candidate score more votes ahead others.
Professor Ajayi therefore declared Alhaji Ahmed Ogembe of PDP as winer with total votes of 46,503, while his closest rival, Senator Nurudeen Abademi of People’s Progressive Alliance (PPA) came second with total votes of 32, 169 while Dr. Wokili Moses of Social Democratic Party (SDP) scored 10,064.
Meanwhile, the senator elect from Kogi Central Senatorial district of the state, Alhaji Ahmed Ogembe has assured the people of Central that he will do his best to reposition Ajaokuta Steel company which has been abandoned for the past thirty years.
Speaking with journalists, at INEC office Alhaji Ogembe said this will be his first priority when he resumed as Senator from the state adding that if that steel company is completed, it will reduce the suffering of the people as more youths are expected to be employed and as well boost the economy of Nigeria.
Alhaji Ogembe thanked the people of Kogi Central for free, fair, credible and violent free election which saw him as senator elect from the area.
