A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial aspirant and member of the party’s Board of Trustees (BOT), Barr. Halima Alfa, yesterday accused former national chairman of the party, Dr Ahmadu Ali, of attempting to impose serving Senator Atai Idoko on Kogi East Senatorial district.

Barr. Alfa who visited the PDP national secretariat to protest moves by Ali to force a serving senator on the district, alleged that the senator disrupted the primaries and made away with the ballot papers mid-way into the primaries.

She added that the senator as well as other aspirants have gone to town declaring themselves winners of the primaries.

While she noted that she was in the lead before the exercise was scuttled, the senatorial aspirant called on the national leadership of the party to either declare her the winner of the primaries or conduct a fresh one in a neutral venue.

The female senatorial aspirant accused Ali, who is a member of the PDP BoT of anti-party activities for supporting the senator even before he returned to PDP barely three months before the senatorial primaries.

She noted “It is me everybody came to vote for, Sen. Atai Aidoko disrupted the process and ran to declare that he got 141 votes but before he scuttled the primaries I was leading by 61 votes. I am the winner of the primary. But about three other aspirants have declared themselves winner of the primaries. I was asked to go and do the same but I said no I am a lawyer and I will follow due process.”

She however cautioned the party to ensure a popular candidate emerges noting that PDP is facing a sterner opposition in the Kogi State unlike before, noting “we must present our first eleven.”

While she appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan and the wife, Dame Patience Jonathan to intervene in the matter, Alfa accused the camp of former PDP national chairman of dropping the president’s name to produce people that cannot deliver.

In a direct appeal to Jonathan she said “help us to ensure that the affirmative action for women is implemented. He (Jonathan) has been supportive of women In the country by virtue of his ?appointment of women into his cabinet. But we need elective positions. All women are suffering from marginalisation because of god fatherism. Enough is enough.”

Although she expressed reservations about the electoral panel led by Alhaji Mohammed Gombe, she said her petition has been filed at the appeal level. She noted that no result has been presented to the party leadership.

“I am sure I will get justice because I am a member of BOT. They should return me as winner or conduct a fresh primary.?”

“I am in the appeal process, and I have evidence of what transpired there. There was no official declaration of a winner but two people have declared themselves winner of the ?primary.”
