Minister of Interior Abba Moro has ordered the contractor handling the Koton-Karfe medium Prison to complete the project in two weeks or risks termination of the contract.
The Minister who was at the Koton-Karfe prisons in Kogi state yesterday to assess the level of damage done to it during the jail break on Sunday night which allowed 144 inmates to escape.
While taking journalists round the medium prison which is under construction the minister said: “Given the level of work that have been done here and given the circumstances at which we found ourselves, I have given out the ultimatum of two weeks within which the contract for this medium prison should be completed.”
The contract for the Prison was awarded in 1981 by the Shehu Shagari administration but was later abandoned. However, it was re-awarded in early 2014 following a jail break in the Koton-Karfe Prison.
Speaking on the attack on the prison, Moro expressed dismay that hoodlums were targeting the prison which has experienced two jail breaks in two years.
