Three members of a vigilance group in Kogi were on Wednesday remanded at Federal Prisons, Okene, for allegedly shooting a woman.
The accused are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and attempted culpable homicide at a Lokoja Magistrates’ Court.
The accused — Muhammed Rabiu,30; Ahmed Yusuf,25; and Ibrahim Abdulrazaq — all members of Enyidudu Community Vigilance Group in Adavi Local Government Area of the state.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
In her ruling, Mrs Joyce Abdulmalik, the Senior Magistrate, said the accused should be kept behind bars until next date of adjournment.
She said since the offences were committed in Adavi Local Government Area the case she transferred the case to the Chief Magistrates’ Court II, Ebogogo.
“I hereby order that the case should be transferred to the Chief Magistrates’ Court II, Ebogogo, so as to afford all parties access to the trial,” she said.
Abdulmalik said application for their bail could be made in Ebogogo at the next date of adjournment.
Earlier, Prosecutor Ubi Ubana told the court that the accused committed the offences on Oct. 13 at Enyidudu.
According to him, Alhaji Mouhammed Yusuf, the President of Kogi Central Community Development Association, Okene, reported the incident at Ogaminana Divisional Police Headquarters on Oct.13.
Ubana said Yusuf had received information from the Enyidudu Community Chairman of the association, Kekere Aronge that members of the vigilance group in the area had shot a woman.
He said the woman, identified as Ajara Aliyu, sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to Okene General Hospital for treatment.
He said the offences contravened Sections 97(1), 230 (b) of the Penal Code.
The case has been adjourned to Nov. 5 for mention.
