All Progressive Congress Restoration Group in Kogi State has admonished Prince Abubakar Audu to jettison his perceived governorship ambition.
The group, during a press conference at the Nigeria Union of Journalists’ secretariat in Lokoja recently, said the body, “borne out of our resolve and determination to seek for a better Kogi State, would look forward to present a fresher candidate for the next gubernatorial election in Kogi State”.
The press conference, anchored by the president of the group, Mohammed Abubakar, observed that although Prince Audu had used his resources to sustain opposition in the state, we call on our leader, the father of APC in Kogi State, Prince Abubakar Audu, former governor of Kogi State, to jettison his ambition of contesting the 2015 gubernatorial election”
Mohammed Abubakar stated that the responsibility to fix the state has fallen on All Progressive Congress (APC) but noted that the opposition’s dream to lead the state had been repeatedly thwarted because it has “continued to field in the same candidate over and over again”.
He asserted that the ruling party is always comfortable with this same candidate since they know how to defeat him and silence him as well, stressing that although they do appreciate the fact that Audu has every right to contest the forthcoming election, if he so wishes, he has fought a very good fight after about four attempts without success.
The group further declared that although Prince Audu is a leader of men who has demonstrated leadership qualities in all ramifications to sustain the opposition in Kogi State, “we have to let him rest and continue to seek his blessing and advice”
It equally informed media men that the party would look forward to present a fresher candidate for the next gubernatorial election in Kogi.
While calling on APC members in the state to support the group, the President also enjoined Prince Audu to support any young candidate that emerges, pointing out that they cannot continue to remain in opposition.
On Prince Audu’s reported stance not to contest the next election, the Vice President of the group for Kogi East, Engr Mohammed Haruna recalled that the former governor had always said so before previous elections but came out to contest at the end.
“The Prince Abubakar Audu we know had said so before previous elections and yet contested. But we appeal to him to reason and understand the situation and challenges facing the state today”, Haruna enthused.
He however pledged that the group shall enforce internal democracy and allow a credible candidate to emerge.
