Kogi United head coach, Abdullahi Biffo has expressed delight with his side’s perfect display in their 3-1 home win over TEAP FC , in the week 16 of the Nigeria National League on Saturday.
The former Giwa FC gaffer, who only took over the reigns of the team on Monday after the club parted ways with Fatai Osho did not wait too long to celebrate his first goal after Ebenezer Odeyemi headed in a cross from Afolabi Abiodun in the 19th minute of the highly entertaining game.
The powerful Odeyemi doubled the lead for the Wada Boys with nine minutes to the end of the first half as he capitalised on a lose ball in the box of the David’s Army.
Ogra Vincent reduced the deficit for TEAP with just eight minutes of the restart which gave them hope of getting something out of the game.
Osas Eghe, a former TEAP player was a super substitute, restored the two goal cushion for Kogi United in the 72nd minute.
An elated Biffo who commended his boys for the maturity noted that the team will get better with subsequent matches to achieve their set goals at the end of the season.
“I feel great, today (Saturday) is a new beginning for me, TEAP really gave us a threat, especially in the middle, but we were able to cage them in the second half, my players showed maturity and played without pressure, football is full of challenges, we’ve crossed this hurdle as we have noticed where we need to make amends, next match we hope to do better than this.
“To get a promotion ticket is not an easy task, it’s a collective effort, you can’t expect only me to do the magic, I must confess that I met a very good team, and Ihope to build on it, with patience we will get there,” he said.
Kogi United have however accrued 25 points from 16 matches, and will next play Ranchers Bees in Kaduna.
