No fewer than 5,000 youths have benefited from the skills development, empowerment and self reliance schemes of the Kogi State Government, Governor Idris Wada has said.

Wada, who was represented by his deputy, Mr. Yomi Awoniyi, said this when the Executive Secretary, Petroleum Training Development Fund, Dr. Oluwole Oluleye, paid a courtesy visit on the governor, according to a statement on Tuesday by Awoniyi’s media aide, Mr. Mike Abu.

The governor said the business of governance in the state had been sanitised with a policy of engaging the young people through the Youth Advancement of Kogi Programme.

Wada said his administration had engaged the youth in the state positively by refocusing their energies towards economic gains and self reliance.

He stated that the state had many opportunities and possibilities for self development and accomplishment, adding that Kogi remained one of the most peaceful states in the country.

The governor said the skills acquisition, entrepreneurship development and employment generation programmes of his administration had contributed immensely to ensuring that the state did not witness youth restiveness.

Wada said his deliberate policy of re-orientation had made social vices unattractive to the youth, as a large number of them were now pursing legitimate dreams.

“A large number of youths, numbering over 5,000, have so far been engaged under the empowerment programme of the administration,” he said.
