Arrangements have been concluded by Kogi State Ministry of Culture and Tourism and relevant stakeholders to organise the first ever Confluence Carnival V which is scheduled to place between November 6 and 9.
The State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr. Thomas Acholo who disclosed this last week while briefing the journalists in Lokoja on the level of preparedness for the Carnival, stated that carnival will attract people from all over the country.
He explained that the state government has approved plans for the big event which will take place in Lokoja, the state capital, stressing that the 21 local government councils have expressed readiness to participate in the carnival and blessings of the traditional rulers across the three senatorial districts received.
With this maiden edition, Acholo said Kogi would join the league of the states which organise annual carnivals for its citizens. Speaking also at briefing, the carnival consultant, Prof. Ojo Bakare, stated that the carnival will attract a lot of economic benefit.
Bakare explained the difference between a carnival and festival of art and culture, by noting that while carnivals celebrate the creative energy of the people, festivals of art and culture celebrated people and their culture.
