Over 8,000 people have so far benefited from the on-going free rural medical care embarked upon by the Kogi State government.

The state’s Commissioner for Health, Idris Omede, stated this at the weekend while briefing newsmen on the activities of the ministry.

He said 8,000 people have been treated, and that the target is 40,000 people as against 37,004 treated during the last exercise in the state.

He said the free medical care is one of the services embarked upon by the government to assist people in rural areas.

According to the commissioner, 24 treatment centres have been set up in the 21 local governments of the state.

“We are trying to see a functional health policy and NHIS that would cater for everybody in both formal and informal sector of the economy. We are up to date on immunization of children and doing our best to tackle child/ maternal mortality”, he said.
