Govt to Partner Private Sector to Develop Lokoja-Jamata Corridor

Towards ensuring that Kogi State benefits maximally from the on-going dualization of the Abuja-Lokoja highway, the Kogi State Government says it intends to work with private sector agencies to help drive the development of the Lokoja-Jamata corridor.

The Kogi State Governor, Capt. Idris Wada made this known when he received the report of the study group on the development of the Lokoja-Jamata corridor.

The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, assured that the state will act fast towards ensuring a proper development control of the corridor.

The State Governor who noted the importance of the corridor to the socio-economic development of the State, said if left un check, illegal development and distortion by developers and business owners will defeat the urbanization policy of the State Government.

The Governor promised an in-depth study of the report towards ensuring that it conform with the already submitted master plan of the State Government.
Wada stated that with the location of the corridor as a gateway and the abundant investment potentials it has to offer, the State Government will not fold its arms and allow the corridor to be wrongfully administered.

The Governor thanked the Members of the Study Group for a painstaking work, appealed to them to also take a look at the Lokoja-Okene, Lokoja-Ajaokuta corridor.

Earlier in his remarks, Hon. Reinde Ashagun, Special Adviser to the Kogi State Governor on Urban Development and Planning and the Team Leader of the Study Group, called for a regional development plan for the corridor as well as a deliberate investment policy to enable the state benefit from the immense investment opportunities the corridor present.
