Kogi Defends New Tax Regime in the State

The Kogi State Government has described the new tax regime been implemented in the State as statutory and in line with the approval by the Federal Tax Board.

Capt. Idris Wada, the Kogi State Governor, represented by his Deputy, Yomi Awoniyi stated this when he met with heads of State Tertiary Institutions and their Unions towards finding an amicable resolution to their complain over the new tax regime.

The State Governor explained that tax is central to good governance, said the new policy is not an imposition, but a duty of government having the rights to review tax matters as the issues arises.

Earlier in his speech, the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Olugbemiro Jegede said the new tax regime is not aimed at revenue generation as being misconstrued but as a civic duty and in line with the new Federal Government approved laws.

In their separate speeches, the Kogi State Head of Service, Dr. Moses Atakpa, the heads of various Tertiary Institutions and their Unions urged the State Government to look into their complain so as to engender increased work harmony.

They commended the giant strides of the State Government in meeting workers welfare, assured of their maximum co-operation.
