Towards giving a better lease of life in this period of sallah celebration, to those living in the various relief camps for displaced persons caused by flood in Kogi State, the State Government has flooded the 87 camps with special sallah package of foodstuff, rams and other items needed to make them have a fun filled celebration as well as of belonging.
Performing the delivery to various camps across the State yesterday, Arc Yomi Awoniyi, urged those displaced, to see their circumstances as an act of God.
The Deputy Governor who is the Chairman flood relief committee,was represented by Abdulrahman Wuya, Commissioner for Environment and Barr. Ladi Jatto, Special Adviser on Environment, who are members of the committee, called for inter agency collaboration among relevant environmental,disaster and emergency management institutions of the country,with a view to ensuring that the nation is well equipped to detect and respond to ravaging effects of flooding and climate change.
Awoniyi, disclosed that government will do all to rehabilitate those affected,commended the discipline exhibited in all the camps in the state by victims, adding that in a few days to come the displaced persons will be relocated from primary schools to alternative places.
The dispatch of the Sallah items,Yomi Awoniyi maintained,was government way of giving a sense of belonging to the displaced persons, urged them to use the festive period for prayers to avert future re occurrence of flood disaster in the country and for sober reflection.
