Officials of the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) paid surprise visits to some medicine stores in Okene and Lokoja, Kogi State in a bid to stop the circulation of fake and counterfeit drugs.
A deputy director in the agency, Adefolarin Adeleke who was the head of the team, said the purpose is to conduct on-the-spot tests on medicines on the shelves.
Some of the drugs tested include: Fansidar, Amalar and Amphiclox, which he said, were genuine.

Mr Adeleke stated that NAFDAC had paid similar visits to 23 other states to identify the sources of fake and counterfeit drugs.
He said that the agency is working on initiatives to counter the influx of fake drugs into the country.
Some of the sellers who expressed happiness over NAFDAC’s action, said that the test has confirmed the genuineness of their products and the need to ensure supply from quality sources.
