- Urges voters to reject the PDP and APC.
Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Labour Party senatorial candidate for Kogi West, Comrade Martins Adekunle Egbanubi, has declared that the district must liberate itself from 27 years of severe political underachievement, infrastructure decay, and acute underrepresentation.
In a press statement issued on Sunday in Lokoja, Egbanubi painted a gloomy picture of the living conditions across Kogi West, highlighting a visible collapse in the standard of living since the return to democratic governance in 1999 despite the persistent political participation and electoral sacrifices of the citizens.
The senatorial contender observed that a tour across major axis of the district, stretching from Chikara through Lokoja, Kabba, Iyamoye, to Egbe, reveals communities struggling with worsening decay. He noted that major arterial roads constructed decades ago have fallen into total dilapidation, while once-renowned public schools and health institutions have turned into shadows of their former selves.

Furthermore, he raised concerns over the displacement of serene agrarian communities by marauding bandits, leaving a palpable sense of despair among residents.
Addressing the historical context of the problem, Egbanubi stated that while it would be unjust to blame constituents for exercising their democratic mandates in previous elections, the ultimate failure lies with past representatives who repeatedly betrayed the people’s trust. He warned, however, that constituents would share in the blame if they continued to support political figures who have failed to lift the senatorial district out of its current plight.
Highlighting the region’s paradox of untapped potential, Egbanubi lamented that Kogi West remains plagued by high unemployment, non-functional water schemes, poor power supply, and an endangered agricultural sector, despite possessing vast mineral deposits, fertile land, and an educated, skilled populace.
The Labour Party flagbearer urged the electorate to break away from traditional political structures, arguing that twenty-seven years of allegiance to the Peoples Democratic Party, the All Progressives Congress, and other traditional political platforms have yielded negligible dividends for the people.
Emphasizing his qualifications for the Senate seat, Egbanubi pointed to his background as a veteran trade unionist with over two decades of experience in the organized labour movement. He assured constituents that his background in mass advocacy, institutional negotiation, and confronting the status quo provides the essential expertise required to deliver impactful legislative representation rather than pursuing personal enrichments in the National Assembly.
He called on residents across the seven local government areas of Kogi West to unite behind his candidacy under the Labour Party to secure a better economic and infrastructural future for the district.
