Open Letter to the Executive Chairman, Kogi State Senior Secondary Education Board

Dear Sir,

We wish to use this medium to draw the attention of the Executive Chairman of the Kogi State Senior Secondary Education Board to the continued delay in the payment of mock examination handling charges owed to school administrators for two consecutive years.

It is disappointing that school administrators who have diligently performed their responsibilities by collecting mock examination fees and remitting the money into the Ministry’s designated account are still struggling to receive their corresponding handling charges.

Why should school administrators be made to wait endlessly for money due to them after fulfilling their own obligations?

Sir, we understand the enormous responsibilities associated with managing secondary schools in Kogi State. Principals and other school administrators work tirelessly to ensure discipline, effective teaching and learning, proper examination coordination, and the smooth running of school activities.

Yet, the financial realities confronting our schools are becoming increasingly difficult.

THE TRUTH MUST BE TOLD: PTA LEVIES ALONE CANNOT RUN OUR SCHOOLS!

School administrators face daily expenses that require urgent attention. From maintaining facilities to supporting essential administrative activities, the demands are enormous. When the handling charges meant to support examination administration remain unpaid for two years, the burden on school management becomes even heavier.

We must ask: How do we expect our schools to function effectively when the little financial support available to school administrators is withheld?

These handling charges are associated with responsibilities already undertaken by school administrators. Their timely payment is therefore important for effective school administration and the smooth conduct of examinations.

We are not asking for a favour. We are appealing for the payment of outstanding handling charges due to school administrators who have fulfilled their responsibilities.

We therefore call on the Executive Chairman to:

  1. Immediately address the outstanding mock examination handling charges for the two consecutive years.
  2. Ensure that all eligible school administrators receive their payments without further unnecessary delay.
  3. Establish a reliable payment arrangement to prevent a recurrence of this situation.
  4. Recognise the financial challenges confronting school administrators and provide the necessary institutional support for effective school management.

OUR APPEAL IS CLEAR: PAY THE OUTSTANDING MOCK EXAMINATION HANDLING CHARGES!

The development of education requires more than policies and directives. It requires practical support for the people responsible for implementing those policies at the school level.

We remain committed to quality education in Kogi State, but school administrators must not be left to carry the burden of running schools without adequate financial support.

We sincerely hope that the Executive Chairman will treat this appeal with the urgency it deserves and take concrete steps to resolve the matter.

Education is a collective responsibility. Let those who manage our schools receive the support they deserve.

Signed:

Mr. Ameh Paul
