The Kogi State Government has commended the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army for arresting two drivers who were conveying equipment belonging to illegal miners.
The State Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara (rtd), gave the commendation while receiving the recovered items at the Headquarters of the 12 Brigade. He said the state government would sustain its partnership with the Army to rid the state of criminal elements.
According to Omodara, the drivers were arrested following an intelligence report indicating they were transporting mining equipment through Giriya in Kogi Local Government Area, en route to Agbaja in Lokoja Local Government Area.

He noted that illegal mining has contributed significantly to insecurity across the country, warning that had the equipment reached the forest, it would have aided banditry in that axis.

The Security Adviser said the state is winning the war against insecurity, adding that security agencies have been directed to sustain the current onslaught against criminal activities. He appealed to members of the public to volunteer more information to help security operatives nip crime and criminality in the bud.
Items recovered from the drivers include a Hiace bus, shovels, a gasoline pump, head pans, and other mining equipment.
