The Kogi East APC Legacy Group has commended Kogi State Governor Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo for his swift response to the request for critical projects. Two recent public notices show that projects Kogi East stakeholders sought have entered the contract-award stage.
Late last month, the Group presented the Governor with a memorandum outlining Kogi East’s infrastructure needs. It prioritised roads, schools, power, healthcare, water, and security. The two notices now in the public domain are important because they show the government has responded to key parts of that request by moving some proposed road and school projects into the formal procurement and contract-award process.
According to the group’s spokesperson, Dr Johnson Musa, the Kogi State Ministry of Works has invited tenders to construct and rehabilitate roads. Two of the lots serve Kogi East, and the Group’s memorandum named both. The first is the construction of the Idah-Onyedega Road in Ibaji, a 37-kilometre stretch. The second is the construction of the Odenyi-Oguma-Sheria Road in Bassa, a 13-kilometre stretch. The deadline for bid submission is 17 September 2026. The two corridors carry heavy farm and market traffic. Their construction will ease movement, lower transport costs, and improve access to health and trade for many communities.
He noted that the Group will continue to track progress on the projects and commended the Governor for delivering on his promises.
Regarding schools, the Kogi State Ministry of Education has announced plans to construct secondary schools across the state. The projects fall under the state government’s World Bank-assisted AGILE programme. The notice covers twenty-eight schools in twenty-one local government areas. Nine of the schools are in Kogi East, one in each of its nine local government areas.
The schools are spread evenly across the district. In Ankpa, the UBE Junior Secondary School at Enjema moves up to senior secondary. Bassa gains a Government Science Secondary School at Oguma. In Dekina, the UBE Junior Secondary School at Efakwu Egume is marked for expansion. Ibaji has the Government Secondary School at Onyedega. Idah has the Idah Secondary Commercial College. In Igalamela-Odolu, the UBE Junior Secondary School at Odolu is also for expansion. In Ofu, the UBE Junior Secondary School at Agojeju moves up to senior secondary. Olamaboro has the Ukoh Community Secondary School. Omala completes the list with the Government Science Secondary School at Ogodu.
This spread is significant. Every local government area in Kogi East is represented. The projects will expand access to secondary education and answer the Group’s call for investment in schools.
Reacting to the notices, a spokesperson for the Group, Dr Musa, said: “We thank Governor Ododo for listening and for acting with speed. These roads and schools were among the needs we placed before him. Their appearance for construction shows a government that keeps faith with its people. We also commend Mr President for the support that makes such projects possible. Kogi East stands firmly behind this administration.”
The Group noted that the projects reflect a commendable philosophy that places equitable development at the centre of governance. It holds that every part of Kogi East deserves a fair share of public investment.
The Group also looks ahead. It expressed confidence that the other requests in the memorandum will receive similar attention. These include the national electric transmission substation, rural water schemes, the revitalisation of general hospitals, a stronger security architecture, the remaining road corridors, and openness on the Ankpa coal and Ibaji oil resources. The Group pledged to keep working with the government to deliver these.
