Workers across Olamaboro Local Government Area turned out in large numbers on Wednesday to receive the Workplace Security Campaign team led by the Special Adviser to the Kogi State Governor on Labour Matters, Comrade Onuh Edoka.
Dressed in their union attires and organised group by group, the workers welcomed the team with solidarity and cultural songs, describing the visit as a homecoming for two of their own — Governor Usman Ododo and Comrade Edoka.
Receiving the team on behalf of the local government chairman, the Director of Personnel Management, Mr Ojile Gabriel, described the visit as a return home and praised the Special Adviser as a worthy ambassador of the area. He said the Ododo administration’s achievements spoke for themselves, adding that there was no need for a re-election campaign in the area given the visible impact the governor had made in improving the welfare of workers.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Olamaboro, Comrade James Agidike, said the governor’s attention to workers’ welfare marked a clear departure from previous administrations. He called for the continuity of both the state and federal governments, citing the benefits already delivered to workers.
The former State President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and a serving member of the Kogi State Fiscal Responsibility Commission, Comrade Tom Abutu, told the gathering that the visit carried a message of hope and consolidation. He commended the warm reception given to the team, saying it reflected the workers’ love and acceptance of the Ododo-led administration, and urged them to sustain their support.
Speaking as leader of the delegation, Comrade Onuh Edoka explained that the campaign was aimed at sensitising workers on the need to remain security conscious, both within their workplaces and in their wider communities, as well as reassuring them about the security of their jobs.
He further urged the workers to see the re-election of President Bola Ahmedu Tinubu and Governor Ododo as necessary to guaranteeing their continued wellbeing, calling on them to rally behind both leaders.
The visit forms part of a broader Workplace Security Campaign being carried out across local government areas in Kogi State, aimed at strengthening ties between the state government and its workforce ahead of the elections.
