The palace of the Achadu Oko Attah of Igala Kingdom, His Royal Highness Alih Yusuf Ameh Adaji III, was thrown open to political leaders, party supporters, friends and well-wishers on Saturday as the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Comrade Joel Salifu, was conferred with a traditional title by his clan.
The ceremony, held at the palace in Idah, coincided with the third anniversary of the Achadu Oko Attah’s ascension to the throne and drew dignitaries from across the state. Notable attendees included the former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Chief Edward David Onoja, the National Leader of the Ukomu Igala Organisation, Major General James Alilu Ataguba (Rtd), and several other prominent sons and daughters of Igala land.
The Deputy Governor was conferred with the prestigious title of Ogah-Achadu Oko Attah, with the salutation “Dooga!”, by his clan head, the Achadu Oko Attah, in a ceremony marked by pomp and cultural pageantry.
Palace officials described the title as a mark of honour, recognition and appreciation of the Deputy Governor’s contributions to his people and his continued commitment to the development of the clan and the state at large.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Achadu Oko Attah described the conferment as a demonstration of the clan’s appreciation and honour for their son, Comrade Joel Salifu, commending his service and his ties to his roots.
Responding, the Deputy Governor expressed gratitude to the traditional institution, his clan, family, friends and supporters for the honour bestowed on him. He reaffirmed his commitment to promoting peace, unity and development among his people.
Comrade Salifu also thanked his principal, the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for finding him worthy to serve as Deputy Governor, and extended appreciation to the immediate past Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, whom he described as the architect of his present political journey.
