The Special Adviser to the Kogi State Governor on Labour Matters, Comrade Onuh Edoka, has been honoured with an Award of Excellence in Labour Leadership and Public Service.
Edoka received the award on Thursday at the Government House during celebrations marking the 35th anniversary of the Kogi State Broadcasting Corporation, also known as Radio Kogi.
Speaking shortly after receiving the honour, Edoka dedicated the award to workers across the state and to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, whom he described as the “Chief Servant” of Kogi. He said while workers gave him the opportunity to serve them, the governor gave him the platform to serve in public office as Special Adviser.
He commended the management and staff of Radio Kogi for recognising his contributions to the state’s development, both as a former labour leader and as an appointee of the current administration.
Edoka said leadership was fundamentally about service to humanity, stressing that selflessness and sincerity remain the hallmarks of good leadership. He said the recognition would spur him to greater commitment, and urged others in leadership positions to embrace a spirit of giving and selfless service.
“I must sincerely appreciate the management of Radio Kogi for finding me worthy of this award. This is because I am not the only former labour leader, neither am I the only serving Special Adviser. I will not take the honour for granted, and so I say thanks to the Radio Kogi leadership for this award,” Edoka said.
Earlier at the event, the Director-General of Radio Kogi, Princess Nana Hauwa Yusuf, said the anniversary celebration was an opportunity to reflect on the corporation’s 35-year journey and chart a path forward.
She said Edoka was singled out for the special award in recognition of his impact in governance, as well as his record as a labour leader, having twice served as chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Kogi State. Princess Nana urged others in leadership positions to always strive to make a lasting impact for posterity.
Edoka was accompanied to the event by the Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in the state, Comrade Sule Ahmed Tijani; the Chairman of the Joint Negotiating Council, Comrade Olusegun Alemeru; other labour leaders; and friends of goodwill.
