The Obajana Traditional Council has publicly rejected the purported appointment of Ademu Egbunu as Onu Igala Obajana, describing the move as illegitimate and the work of mischief-makers seeking to sow discord between the Igala and Obajana communities.
In a statement issued by the Obajana Community Secretary, High Chief Berida Ibitomola, on behalf of the Obajana Traditional Council of Chiefs, the council urged residents to disregard the appointment entirely, calling it a “backdoor” arrangement with no standing in traditional protocol.
The council recalled that Chief Daikwo Gideon was formally appointed Onu Igala Obajana on 30th June 2024 by the Bajana of Obajana, HRH Engr. Oba (Dr.) Idowu Isenibi, JP, and continues to hold the title.
“As far as the Traditional Council is concerned, Chief Daikwo Gideon remains the only recognised Onu Igala Obajana. Anyone laying claim to a backdoor appointment is merely chasing shadows,” the statement read.
The council warned that any attempt by “unscrupulous elements” to disrupt the peace currently enjoyed in the community would not be tolerated, and called on security agencies to urgently investigate the matter to forestall a breakdown of law and order.
The traditional institution said it remains committed to preserving unity between the Igala and Obajana communities and will not allow what it termed unauthorized claims to title to undermine that relationship.
As of press time, Ademu Egbunu had not issued a public response to the council’s statement.
