Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has felicitated with Muslims across Nigeria, particularly the Muslim faithful in Kogi Central Senatorial District, on the occasion of the celebration of Mawlid an-Nabi, urging them to reflect on the life, teachings and exemplary character of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
In a goodwill message marking the occasion, the Senator described Mawlid as a significant period for Muslims to renew their commitment to peace, compassion, humility, justice and peaceful coexistence, stressing that the teachings of the Prophet remain relevant to the challenges confronting society today.
Senator Natasha said the celebration should go beyond festivities and serve as an opportunity for Muslims to strengthen their faith, promote unity and extend kindness to people irrespective of their religious, ethnic or political backgrounds.
“Mawlid is a beautiful opportunity for us to reflect on the life and teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), whose message emphasised compassion, justice, humility, peace and love for humanity. These timeless values remain essential to building a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.”
She particularly called on Muslims in Kogi Central to continue to uphold the longstanding tradition of peaceful coexistence among the various communities and faiths in the senatorial district.
According to her, Kogi Central has a rich history of religious and communal harmony, adding that the bonds of brotherhood and mutual respect among the people must be preserved and strengthened.
“To my brothers and sisters in Kogi Central, I urge you to continue to be ambassadors of peace, tolerance and unity. Our diversity should never divide us; rather, it should strengthen our collective resolve to build communities where everyone can live, worship and pursue their aspirations in peace.”
The Senator also encouraged Muslim leaders, parents and young people to use the occasion to promote moral discipline, peaceful dialogue, compassion for the less privileged and responsible citizenship.
She emphasised the importance of supporting vulnerable members of society, noting that caring for the poor and needy is consistent with the humanitarian values exemplified by the Prophet.
“As we celebrate Mawlid, let us remember the less privileged among us. Let us share, forgive, show compassion and extend a helping hand to those in need. The true beauty of this celebration lies not only in our words and gatherings but also in the positive impact we make in the lives of others.”
Distinguished Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan further urged Nigerians to reject religious intolerance, hatred, violence and divisive rhetoric, particularly at a time when the country needs greater unity and understanding among its citizens.
She called on political, traditional and religious leaders to continue promoting peaceful coexistence and constructive engagement across communities.
“Nigeria belongs to all of us, and our collective progress depends on our ability to live together in peace. Let us use the lessons of Mawlid to strengthen our commitment to unity, justice, compassion and peaceful coexistence.”
She concluded by praying for peace, prosperity and divine guidance for Muslims in Kogi Central and across Nigeria, while wishing the Muslim faithful a meaningful and spiritually rewarding Mawlid celebration.
“May the blessings of this Mawlid bring peace to our homes, progress to our communities and renewed hope to our nation. May Almighty Allah continue to guide and bless the Muslim Ummah, Kogi Central and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
