The just-concluded Osun State governorship election will be remembered as one of the freest, fairest, and most credible elections in Nigeria’s democratic history since the landmark June 12, 1993 presidential election won by Chief M.K.O. Abiola.

The outcome stands as a powerful testament to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to democratic ideals and constitutional governance. It has strengthened the confidence of millions of Nigerians who believe that democracy can only thrive when the people’s votes truly count.

Before the election, many skeptics feared that the deployment of security personnel was designed to intimidate voters and tilt the process in favour of the ruling party.

However, the conduct and outcome of the election have completely dispelled those fears. Instead, Nigerians witnessed a level playing field where the will of the people prevailed.

Given the narrow margin of victory, it is evident that if President Tinubu had intended to manipulate the outcome, it would have been far easier to do so. Yet, he chose the path of democratic integrity over political convenience. That decision speaks volumes about his resolve to build enduring democratic institutions rather than pursue partisan advantage.

President Tinubu is steadily rebuilding Nigeria’s democracy by restoring public confidence in the electoral process. He is demonstrating that elections can be credible, transparent, and reflective of the genuine wishes of the electorate.
In doing so, he is rekindling hope that our democracy can become stronger with every electoral cycle.

Governor Ademola Adeleke’s reported commitment to supporting President Tinubu’s re-election further underscores the spirit of political maturity that a credible electoral process can foster.

It reflects an appreciation for a President who has allowed democracy to flourish without undue interference.
Nigeria is gradually emerging from its political wilderness.

Under President Tinubu’s leadership, the nation is witnessing renewed faith in democratic governance and in the sanctity of the ballot box. Every Nigerian who genuinely cherishes democracy should encourage and support this positive direction.

President Tinubu is restoring the honour and credibility of our electoral system while reinforcing confidence in our electoral umpire. Commendation is also due to INEC and its officials, particularly Professor Amupitan and all those whose integrity and professionalism contributed to the successful conduct of this election.

History will remember this election not merely for its outcome, but as another important step in rebuilding Nigeria’s democracy and restoring hope that every vote truly counts.
Thank you President Tinubu for renewing our hope.
