The Kwara State Publicity Secretary of Social Democratic Party (SDP) , Engr. Daniel Eunice Oluwaseyi, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for upholding the rule of law following the listing of Prince Adewole Adebayo as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
In a statement issued in Ilorin, Engr. Daniel Eunice Oluwaseyi, who is also the SDP candidate for the Ekiti/Isin/Irepodun/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency, said the nomination had energized party members across the country.
“The listing by INEC of Prince Adewole Adebayo’s name as our presidential candidate has, in no small measure, invigorated the party and elicited jubilation across the ranks and file of the SDP family, particularly at the sub-national level,” Oluwaseyi said.
Speaking on behalf of all SDP candidates for the 2027 polls, Oluwaseyi praised the electoral umpire for respecting the internal democracy and independence of political parties in the nomination process.
“The strict adherence to the rule of law and unbiased actions of the Commission, with regard to the nomination of candidates of political parties, is quite reassuring,” he said, describing the development as an important aspect of the 2026 electoral process.
Oluwaseyi described Adebayo — a lawyer, industrialist, media entrepreneur and philanthropist — as a leader whose public policy advocacy and grasp of national development issues have made him “a darling of millions of Nigerians” across the North and South of the country.
According to the statement, Adebayo’s growing appeal is anchored on his advocacy for constitutional democracy and governance rooted in Chapter 2 of the Nigerian Constitution, which addresses the Fundamental Objectives and Directive Principles of State Policy.
The SDP official said the party’s presidential candidate has emerged as one of the most followed and most competent contenders ahead of the 2027 election, buoyed by growing endorsements from political advocacy groups, grassroots structures and opinion leaders nationwide.
Oluwaseyi urged Nigerians to look beyond the current economic hardship and insecurity in the country and embrace what he described as the alternative offered by Adebayo’s candidacy.
“I hereby call on all Nigerians to move away from the dehumanising hunger, poverty, national despair, insecurity and despondency of this era and embrace the refreshing hope for national transformation that the candidature of the SDP presidential candidate offers,” he said.
He added that the SDP, as a leading opposition party, remains committed to deepening democracy and prioritising citizens’ welfare at all levels of government.
The statement noted that SDP candidates across the country are already mobilising and working to popularise the party’s programmes and manifesto ahead of the general election, which it described as a potential “turning point for Nigeria.”
Oluwaseyi called on Nigerians to make informed voting decisions at both national and sub-national levels in the coming election cycle.
“Going forward, Nigeria has to be better governed than what obtains presently. The SDP is undeniably the sure pathway,” he said.
