The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Kogi State on Fraud and Internet Matters, Hon. Oluseyi Kelvin Eleta, has called on students of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) to reject internet fraud and every other form of criminal activity, urging them instead to build their future on integrity, knowledge, creativity, and legitimate enterprise.
Hon. Eleta gave the charge while speaking as Guest Speaker at a Security Summit organised by the Community Ambassador for Developmental Engagement Techniques Initiative (CADET), Federal University Lokoja Command. The summit, themed “Breaking the Chain of Insecurity in the Student Community,” brought together students, cadets, security stakeholders, and members of the university community to discuss practical ways of improving safety on campus.
Upon his arrival, Hon. Eleta was received by a guard of honour comprising officers of the CADET Initiative, FUL Command, under the leadership of the Commanding Officer, Cadet Major Samuel Iyanuolowa Akinjiyan.
In his presentation, Hon. Eleta explained that internet fraud has grown beyond a cybercrime issue to become a security concern with far-reaching consequences. He cautioned students against the temptation of quick money, noting that involvement in internet fraud often exposes young people to other criminal activities such as identity theft, blackmail, cultism, kidnapping, and organised crime.
He encouraged the students to channel their talents into productive ventures by acquiring digital and entrepreneurial skills capable of generating sustainable income, stressing that genuine success comes through hard work, discipline, innovation, and good character.
KAiFT’s Continued Push Across the State
The SSA also used the opportunity to highlight the achievements of the Kogi Anti-Internet Fraud Team (KAiFT), pointing to the campaign’s continued engagement with schools and young people across the state. He explained that the initiative, officially flagged off by His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, FCA, on 25th May 2026, is promoting the values of Character, Creativity, and Clean Wealth through awareness programmes, school sensitisation, and the establishment of Anti-Internet Fraud Clubs.
Hon. Eleta expressed appreciation to the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Lokoja, Prof. Gbenga Ibileye, for endorsing the Kogi Anti-Internet Fraud Campaign and supporting efforts aimed at promoting responsible digital behaviour and security awareness among students. He described the university’s support as an important contribution toward producing students who will use technology responsibly and contribute positively to society.
As part of the programme, Hon. Eleta officially launched the CADET Initiative Branded Exercise Book, a project aimed at promoting learning, discipline, and leadership among students. He also made a cash donation in support of the initiative and commended the organisers for providing a platform that encourages constructive engagement and security consciousness within the university community.
Hon. Eleta concluded by urging students to become ambassadors of positive change, reminding them that rejecting internet fraud and other related crimes is a personal responsibility — one that contributes to a safer campus, a stronger society, and a better future for Nigeria.
