The Executive Chairman of the Kogi State Security Trust Fund (KSSTF), retired Air Vice Marshal Omeiza Umar, has urged drivers of security agencies in the state to uphold professionalism, discipline and road safety in the discharge of their duties.
Umar gave the charge on Friday in Lokoja at the closing ceremony of a three-day Specialised Drivers’ Training Programme organised by the KSSTF in collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
He said the training was aimed at improving the competence, professionalism and safety consciousness of personnel entrusted with operating government vehicles, noting that effective security operations depended not only on logistics but also on the skills and discipline of drivers.
According to him, participants were exposed to theoretical and practical sessions on defensive driving, road safety regulations, emergency response, vehicle maintenance, convoy movement, hazard perception and accident prevention.
He urged the participants to translate the knowledge acquired into responsible conduct on the roads, stressing that the certificates awarded to them represented greater responsibility and higher expectations.
Umar reaffirmed the commitment of the KSSTF, under the leadership of Gov. Ahmed Ododo, to strengthening the operational capacity of security agencies through continuous training and strategic investments.
In his remarks, the Kogi Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Lawal Faggae, described the programme as the first of its kind for security drivers in the state and commended the KSSTF for its commitment to enhancing the professionalism of security personnel.
He urged participants to apply the knowledge gained and replicate the training by sharing it with colleagues.
Also speaking, the Kogi Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Olumide Aletan, described the initiative as timely, saying it had equipped participants with defensive driving skills needed for safer and more professional operations.
Speaking on behalf of the participants, DSC Femi Mathew of the NSCDC expressed appreciation to the KSSTF for organising the training, noting that it exposed gaps in participants’ knowledge of road safety and traffic regulations.
He appealed to the fund to sustain the programme to further improve operational efficiency, professionalism and road safety among security personnel.
