The Kogi State Ministry of Solid Minerals and Natural Resources has announced the temporary suspension of all mining activities along the Ankpa Local Government axis of the state.

In a public notice issued earlier today by Muhammed Jamiu, the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Commissioner, the Ministry said the suspension is to allow for an ongoing rehabilitation exercise in the area. The exercise is being carried out in collaboration with the Mining Association, Ankpa Local Government, and the Kogi State Ministry of Solid Minerals and Natural Resources.

According to the statement, the directive affects all miners, mining associations, host communities, and operators within the Ankpa axis.

The Ministry urged all stakeholders to comply with the directive “until further notice” and assured that an official announcement on the resumption of mining activities will be made once the rehabilitation is completed.

It also appreciated the cooperation and understanding of all stakeholders during the period of the exercise.

The move is part of the Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo administration’s efforts to ensure sustainable mining practices and environmental safety in Kogi State.
