The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited, Prof. Nasir Abdulsalam, has recorded another landmark achievement with the successful signing of a 20-year Gas Supply Agreement and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

This historic agreement marks a major turning point in the long-awaited revival of the Ajaokuta Steel Plant, bringing to an end a 46-year challenge that had hindered the full operationalization of one of Nigeria’s most strategic industrial assets.

The availability of a guaranteed long-term gas supply has been one of the most critical requirements consistently demanded by prospective investors. With this milestone now achieved, Ajaokuta Steel Company is significantly better positioned for full-scale production and industrial operations.

This breakthrough is widely seen as a testament to the commitment of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to industrialization, economic diversification, and the revitalization of critical national infrastructure. The President’s Renewed Hope Agenda continues to deliver tangible results through bold reforms and strategic partnerships aimed at unlocking Nigeria’s industrial potential.

The signing of the agreement is expected to boost investor confidence, accelerate the completion of outstanding processes, create thousands of direct and indirect jobs, strengthen local manufacturing, and reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported steel products.

With the gas supply challenge now resolved, Ajaokuta Steel Company stands at the threshold of a new era. The long-awaited dream of a functional steel industry is closer than ever, and the nation can look forward with renewed optimism to the commencement of production at Africa’s largest integrated steel plant.
