The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Ogugu State Constituency in the forthcoming Kogi State House of Assembly election, Hon. Michael Samuel Idoko, has formally presented his Certificate of Return and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Nomination Forms to his mentor and one of the most respected leaders in Ogugu land, High Chief Ogwu James Onoja, SAN, in what observers described as a symbolic demonstration of respect for tradition, mentorship, and responsible leadership.

The visit, attended by eminent legal practitioners from Ogugu, including Barrister Moses Ebute, SAN, Barrister George Ibrahim, SAN, and Barrister Peter Idenyi, provided an opportunity for the senior advocates to offer prayers, words of encouragement, and fatherly counsel to the PDP flag bearer ahead of the 2027 legislative election.

Speaking during the meeting, High Chief Ogwu James Onoja, SAN commended the young politician for seeking the blessings of elders before embarking on a greater responsibility.

“Leadership demands humility, integrity, and accountability. I am pleased that Michael has chosen to begin this journey by seeking counsel and prayers from those who genuinely desire the progress of our people. I pray that God grants him wisdom, strength, and the grace to serve faithfully if entrusted with this mandate,” he said.

Also speaking, Barrister Moses Ebute, SAN described the visit as a reflection of the candidate’s respect for experience and community values.

“Our society thrives when younger leaders acknowledge the importance of mentorship. Michael has demonstrated maturity and respect, and I encourage him to remain focused on service, justice, and the welfare of the people of Ogugu,” he stated.

In his remarks, Barrister George Ibrahim, SAN urged the PDP candidate to remain committed to issue-based politics and people-oriented representation.

“Public office is a sacred trust. The expectations of the people are enormous, and I encourage him to always remember that leadership is about solving problems and improving lives. We pray for God’s guidance throughout this journey,” he said.

Offering his blessings, Barrister Peter Idenyi expressed confidence in the candidate’s capacity to provide effective representation.

“As a member of the family and as an elder, I am proud of Michael’s growth and commitment to public service. I pray that God directs every step he takes and grants him success in his aspiration. More importantly, I pray that he remains faithful to the people if elected,” he said.

Responding, Hon. Michael Samuel Idoko described the occasion as one of the most memorable moments of his political journey, saying the prayers and encouragement received from the respected legal icons would remain a source of strength and inspiration.

“Today is not merely about presenting my Certificate of Return and INEC Nomination Forms; it is about seeking the blessings of men whose lives have inspired excellence, justice, and selfless service. Their confidence in me is a sacred trust that I will never take for granted,” he said.

The PDP candidate pledged to uphold the values of honesty, transparency, and purposeful representation if elected into the Kogi State House of Assembly.

“I make this solemn promise to the good people of Ogugu State Constituency: I will not disappoint you. By the grace of God and with the continued support and prayers of our elders and our people, we shall secure victory, and together we will pursue legislation and representation that promote development, unity, youth empowerment, quality education, improved healthcare, and inclusive growth for every community in our constituency,” Idoko added.

He noted that the visit, which coincided with the beginning of a new month, symbolized renewed hope and a deeper commitment to the aspirations of the people.

“This new month reminds us that every new beginning comes with fresh opportunities to serve humanity. I pray that Almighty God blesses every family in Ogugu State Constituency with peace, good health, favour, and prosperity. Together, we shall write a new chapter of progress and shared development for our people,” he said.

Political observers described the meeting as a significant moment in Idoko’s campaign, noting that the public endorsement, prayers, and counsel from some of Ogugu’s most distinguished legal minds underscore the importance of mentorship, unity, and experienced guidance in nurturing a new generation of leaders.
