The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders in Kogi East have officially endorsed Alhaji Muhammed Abdullahi, popularly known as “Elephant,” as the consensus candidate for the Kogi East Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement, which was reportedly reached after wide consultations among party leaders, stakeholders, youth groups, and women representatives across the nine local government areas of Kogi East, has been described as a strategic move aimed at strengthening the party’s chances in the forthcoming senatorial contest.
Speaking during the endorsement gathering, party stakeholders hailed Alhaji Abdullahi as “a man of the people” whose longstanding contributions to humanity and grassroots development have earned him the confidence of the party faithful.
One of the PDP leaders at the meeting stated that the decision was based on merit, loyalty, and his steady support for the growth of the party in Kogi East.
“Alhaji Muhammed Abdullahi, popularly known as Elephant, has consistently demonstrated uncommon leadership, generosity, and commitment to the welfare of our people. His endorsement as a consensus candidate is a reflection of the trust and confidence Kogi East PDP has in his capacity to deliver quality representation,” the party chieftain, Barr. Kabiru, said.
Political observers within the district noted that Abdullahi’s popularity has continued to rise due to his philanthropic gestures and empowerment programmes which have touched many communities across Kogi East over the years.
The PDP consensus candidate recently attracted widespread commendation after purchasing nomination forms for 11 State House of Assembly aspirants across Kogi East, a move many described as unprecedented and a demonstration of his commitment to youth inclusion and political development.
According to party supporters, the gesture was aimed at encouraging credible and competent young politicians to participate actively in the democratic process without being hindered by financial limitations.
A youth leader in Ankpa , Suleiman Abubarka described the intervention as a “rare act of political mentorship and selflessness.”
“At a time many politicians only think about themselves, Elephant invested in the dreams of others by purchasing forms for 11 House of Assembly aspirants. This singular act speaks volumes about the kind of leader he intends to be,” he said.
Speaking on his vision for the senatorial district, Alhaji Abdullahi promised to prioritize human capital development, youth empowerment, infrastructural growth, education, agriculture, and economic opportunities if elected into the Senate in 2027.
He assured the people that his ambition is driven by a genuine desire to restore effective representation and bring government closer to the grassroots.
“My mission is to serve the people of Kogi East with sincerity, transparency, and dedication. I want to ensure our youths are empowered, our women are supported, our farmers are encouraged, and our communities receive the development they deserve,” Abdullahi said.
He further pledged to facilitate meaningful federal projects, scholarships, skills acquisition programmes, and employment opportunities for constituents across the district.
Residents and party faithful across Kogi East have continued to commend his humanitarian efforts, noting that for several years he has remained actively involved in supporting widows, students, religious bodies, community development initiatives, and vulnerable groups.
Many believe his endorsement signals a new political direction for the PDP in Kogi East as preparations gradually begin for the 2027 elections.
