- Recounts family bond, describes late physician as “a pillar of loyalty and compassion”
The Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, on Wednesday, joined family members, friends and well-wishers to bid a final farewell to Late Dr. Japhet Adebisi Ogunsona, describing him as a man of uncommon dedication, loyalty, and service to humanity.
Dr. Ogunsona, who was born on November 13, 1944, passed away on March 20, 2026, leaving behind a legacy defined by excellence in the medical profession and unwavering commitment to people.
Speaking during the burial ceremony, Senator Natasha paid glowing tribute to the deceased, highlighting not only his professional achievements but also his deep personal connection to her family.

“Late Dr. Japhet Ogunsona was more than a respected medical professional; he was family to us. My father and him shared a bond that went beyond friendship, they were brothers in purpose and in values,” she said.



The senator became visibly reflective as she recounted how the late doctor remained steadfastly supportive even after the passing of her father.
“Even when my father was no longer with us, Dr. Ogunsona never walked away. He stood by our family with the same loyalty, the same strength, and the same love. That is a rare quality, and it speaks volumes about the kind of man he was,” she added.
Drawing from his life story as outlined in his biography, Senator Natasha noted that Dr. Ogunsona’s journey from humble beginnings in Irele, Ekiti State, to becoming a highly accomplished medical professional was a testament to perseverance and grace.
She praised his years of service, which spanned key institutions including the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital and the Nigerian Paper Mill Clinic, as well as his leadership role in medical services under the defunct National Electric Power Authority (NEPA).
“He lived a life of impact. From serving communities in Kwara to rising to leadership in Abuja, Dr. Ogunsona never lost sight of what truly mattered—people, service, and integrity,” she stated.
The senator further commended his dedication after retirement, particularly his decision to establish a private clinic in Abuja where he continued to care for patients.
“Even in retirement, he refused to rest when there were lives to touch. That tells you everything about his passion for humanity,” she said.
Family members described the late doctor as a compassionate mentor, a devoted family man, and a respected elder whose influence extended across communities.
The burial ceremony drew dignitaries from across Kogi State and beyond, reflecting the wide-reaching impact of Dr. Ogunsona’s life and service.
Senator Natasha urged younger generations to emulate his virtues of dedication, humility, and loyalty.
“If there is anything we must take from his life, it is the courage to stand by others, to serve selflessly, and to remain steadfast in values even when it is difficult. That is the legacy he leaves behind,” she concluded.
