The National Leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Leke Joseph Abejide, has declared that prominent political figures including David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola, Rotimi Amaechi, and Atiku Abubakar are not members of the party.

Abejide made this clarification on Thursday during a visit to the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja, where he appeared alongside the party’s factional National Chairman, Nafiu Bala Gombe, leading a delegation of supporters.

The ADC leadership used the occasion to reaffirm its support for INEC and its Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, commending the commission for upholding the rule of law and protecting the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process.

Speaking to journalists, Abejide emphasised that the party remains guided by legality and due process, warning against attempts by political actors or coalitions to falsely associate with or infiltrate established political platforms.

He further praised the judiciary for maintaining independence in interpreting the law, noting that the courts have continued to resist external pressures capable of undermining democratic institutions.

Also speaking, Gombe described INEC’s recent actions as lawful and necessary, stressing that strict adherence to the rule of law is essential to sustaining Nigeria’s democracy, particularly as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.

He noted that the courts have continued to demonstrate independence by resisting undue influence from individuals and groups seeking to distort democratic processes.

The Acting National Publicity Secretary of the party, Bashiru Abdul Mohammed, said the ADC leadership has cautioned against moves that could destabilise the political system or distract INEC from its constitutional responsibilities, urging all stakeholders to act in the interest of democratic stability.

“Any move capable of undermining democratic institutions or distracting INEC from its constitutional mandate, particularly ahead of the 2027 general elections, should be discouraged.

“We reaffirm our support for INEC’s leadership and called on all stakeholders to prioritize the stability and credibility of Nigeria’s democracy,” he added.
