The Kogi state chapter of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has expressed sadness over the killing of nine herdsmen in Ankpa local government area of the state.

The State Secretary of the association, Suleiman Muhammed, in a statement on Monday, described the attack which reportedly claimed the lives of innocent men, women, and children as barbaric.

MACBAN called on security agencies to immediately investigate the incident, arrest those responsible, and ensure that justice is served.

According to the association, the continued targeting and killing of innocent pastoral communities is dangerous and capable of escalating tensions among peaceful communities.

The victims were identified as Isiaka Lawal, Larai Musa (wife of Isiaka Lawal), Abdullahi Isiaka, Isah Isiaka, Saleh Isiaka, Samsiya Adamu, Asma’u Siuni, Basullube Musa, and Bello Musa.

The association also disclosed that three persons sustained injuries in the attack. They include Husseini Haruna, Abdullahi Abdullahi, and Sa’ida Haruna.

The group extended condolences to the families of the victims and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured.

It also appealed to governments at all levels, humanitarian organisations, and relevant authorities to provide urgent relief materials and medical assistance to affected families.

MACBAN further urged members of the pastoralist community and residents of the area to remain calm and law-abiding while security agencies carry out investigations.

The association stressed that the sanctity of human life must be protected at all times, irrespective of ethnic background, religion, or occupation, noting that every Nigerian deserves equal protection under the law.
