In a statement on Sunday evening, the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, said the joint special operations team comprised personnel from the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Navy, the Nigerian Air Force (providing air support), the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), as well as local vigilantes and hunters.

Fanwo said the joint operation successfully overrun three major bandit camps in Kogi State.

“The camps, operated by notorious bandit leaders including Kachalla Babangida, were bombarded with superior firepower, leading to the neutralization of scores of bandits through coordinated air strikes and ground engagements. The camps were completely destroyed, while kidnap victims previously held there were rescued,” Fanwo said.

He said the state government has moved the rescued victims to medical facilities for treatment before being reunited with their families.

The State Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara (Rtd), commended the gallantry of the officers and assured them of the state government’s continued support towards the total elimination of banditry and terrorism in Kogi state.

The Kogi state government expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his firm commitment to curbing banditry and terrorism across Nigeria.
