A youth group in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to appoint former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Adaiza Bello, as Director-General of the proposed 2027 Presidential Campaign Council.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Monday, National Coordinator of Asokoro Youth Association, Musa Adah, said the appeal followed consultations and an assessment of political trends ahead of the next general election.

According to Adah, the group believes the ruling party’s 2027 campaign requires a coordinator with the capacity to manage nationwide mobilisation and respond effectively to opposition strategies.

The association said its membership cuts across various professional backgrounds, including academia and the organised private sector, adding that Bello’s political experience and national visibility position him to engage a wide spectrum of voters.

It described the former governor as a leader with the courage and organizational capacity to mobilize support across the six geopolitical zones.

The group further stated that youths in the FCT and other parts of the country would support such an appointment if the President takes into account what it described as the growing demand among young voters for effective campaign leadership.

“After careful consideration of current political dynamics and emerging opposition strategies, we are convinced that Alhaji Yahaya Adaiza Bello possesses the experience and leadership required to serve as Director-General of the 2027 Presidential Campaign Council,” he said.

Members of the association also disclosed plans to implement community-focused programmes for underprivileged residents across the six area councils of the FCT.

In addition, they said the group would intensify voter education and mobilization efforts aimed at highlighting policies and achievements of the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) administration over the past 34 months.

According to the association, its activities will focus on grassroots engagement and public awareness as preparations for the 2027 general election gain momentum.
