Eganyi FC has presented their trophy to the Ajaokuta Federal House of Representatives member, Hon. Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem (SEA), describing him as the apex leader of the area, following their victory at the first maiden edition of the Ohinoyi Cup.
The team appreciated the lawmaker for his moral support, encouragement, and strong passion for the development of sports in Eganyi and Ajaokuta at large.
They also highlighted other remarkable achievements recorded during the tournament, noting that the team won Man of the Match in all the games they played, as well as awards for Best Goalkeeper and Best Coach.
According to the team, their victory was further symbolic, as Eganyi (Ajaokuta) is regarded as the ancestral home of the Ebira people, making it significant that they emerged champions of the first Ohinoyi Cup, which brought together all Ebira-speaking local government areas. They presented pressing challenges and requests help
In his response, Hon. Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem commended the coach and players for their resilience, discipline, and outstanding performance, eulogising them for making Ajaokuta proud.
The lawmaker recalled his past efforts in sponsoring a football team, which, he said, failed to thrive due to misplaced expectations and entitlement.
Emphasising the importance of hard work and initiative, SEA stated that “a child who raises his hand deserves to be lifted,” and, in that spirit, made a financial donation to the team. He further pledged his continued support, assuring the players of his availability for future responsibilities and sponsorship opportunities as they advance.
The visit ended on a jubilant note, with the players chanting in unison, “You’re a leader, you’re a leader,” in appreciation of his support and leadership.
