The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, has called for the adoption of technology for mopping up illegal arms and ammunitions in the state.
He made call when played host to Mr. Abdul Adamu Eneche, Zonal Director of the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), in Lokoja on Monday, to discuss strategies for managing and eliminating small arms and light weapons in Kogi State.
He noted that it will address arms proliferation and drastically reduce insecurity challenges.
CP Kankarofi emphasized the importance of partnerships and raising awareness about the dangers of illicit arms. He stressed that the meeting focused on strengthening security collaboration and community policing initiatives to combat armed crimes and improve public safety.
The Zonal Director, Mr. Abdul Adamu Eneche, disclosed that NCCSALW was established in 2021 to control and manage small arms and light weapons in Nigeria, aligning with the ECOWAS Convention. He noted that the agency’s presence in Kogi State is expected to enhance efforts to combat armed robbery, kidnapping, and other security threats.

This collaboration is crucial in addressing the proliferation of small arms and light weapons, which fuels insecurity and undermines national stability.
