Political office holders from Ijumu Local Government Area at the State and Federal Levels have endorsed the 2025 Ijumu Cultural Festival, a celebration of the rich Cultural Heritage of the people of Ijumu Kingdom.
This was the outcome of a meeting between Traditional Rulers, Executives of Ijumu Development Union and the Political Office Holders held at the Palace of the Olujumu of Ijumu Kingdom.
The Olujumu of Ijumu Kingdom, Oba Williams Olusegun Ayeni, who commended those who attended the meeting noted that the event is mainly to reawaken the culture of the Kingdom that is already going into extinction.
He urged them to remain focused and work as a team to ensure a successful outing.
The IDU President, Comrade Ahmed Ade Fatai maintained that the meeting was aimed at strengthening the unity, progress, and development of Ijumu land.
“However, as we rejoice in these divine elevations, we must constantly remind ourselves that the positions we occupy do not belong to us alone. They belong to the people of Ijumu, the men, women, and youths whose hopes and trust are placed upon our shoulders. We are there because of them; we represent their dreams and aspirations.
“It is on this note that I must speak frankly, as one who seeks only the growth and unity of our land. In recent times, we have noticed with concern that many of our representatives and appointees have not been attending our collective meetings, meetings where vital discussions are held and decisions taken concerning the progress of our various communities and Ijumu as a whole.
“This absence has not only weakened our coordination but has also denied our communities the dividends of your positions. This trend, my brothers and sisters, does not speak well of us as leaders or as proud sons and daughters of Ijumu.
“Your active participation and contributions are highly needed. Each of you remains a critical stakeholder and an ambassador of our communities. When you lend your voice, your time, and your resources, development follows. Ijumu has always been known as a pacesetter in Kogi State, a land of intellect, unity, and progress. We cannot afford to slip back,” he said.
The IDU President intimated the gathering that the Festival will hold on 22nd November at the Olujumu Palace, while a Colloquium will take place in Friday 21st of same month.
Responding, the Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Sunday Faleke reaffirmed that he will continue to attend any meeting that he is invited to.
Hon. Faleke noted that the appointees at the State level will do their best to support the Programme, stressing the need for all hands to be on deck.
The meeting was well attended with the Appointees declaring their support for the Programme.
