Comrade Usman Okai Austin has commended the Rector, Kogi State Polytechnic, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, for the remarkable achievements recorded under his leadership, especially in the areas of infrastructural development, improved academic standards, and the repositioning of the Polytechnic as an institution of excellence.
According to a statement signed by Uredo Omale, the Polytechnic’s Director, Public Relations and Protocol, Comrade Okai gave the commendation when he paid the Rector a courtesy visit to his office on Tuesday.
He described the progress made so far in the institution under the leadership of Professor Usman Ogbo as a testament of visionary leadership and effective management by his team.
Comrade Okai, who was in Lokoja on a condolence visit to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo over the demise of his beloved father, decided to use the opportunity to pay a courtesy visit on the Rector.
In his remarks, the Rector appreciated Comrade Okai for the visit particularly for acknowledging the modest achievements of the institution under his watch in the last few years.
He attributed the success recorded to the unwavering support of Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the immediate past Governor of Kogi State and his successor, Governor Ododo.
Prof. Usman further urged Comrade Okai to deploy his influence as a social media influencer from Kogi state towards the promotion of unity, peace, progress and development of the state.
The Rector specifically charged Comrade Okai to champion what he termed “Kogi East and or Kogi State Social Media Youth Summit”, to discuss the disturbing abuse and misuse of the social media with the view to curtailing the trends from further de-marketing our dear state.
The Rector further suggested that the initiative of the statewide “social media summit” will help to harmonise the various but divergent political interests, fostering mutual understanding and discouraging the use of social media for ethnic bigotry so as not to further divide the citizens. On this, the Rector emphasized that, what unites people is more than whatever some youths are misusing the social media platforms to divide us.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Polytechnic to sustaining discipline, quality assurance and infrastructural growth in line with the vision of Governor Ododo which is anchored on the consolidation and continuity of the New Direction administration in the state.
The Rector submitted that it is not all the time people should carry placards and be on the street. Rather, observations on Government policies for improvement are better discussed on the roundtable with better results. He commended Comrade Okai for his courageous and exemplary visit to the Governor and noted that he is confident that the observations made will be addressed accordingly.
