As 2027 elections approaches, a compelling call rings louder across the political landscape of Kogi West: it is time for Lokoja – Kogi Federal Constituency to claim its rightful place in the senatorial leadership of the district.

Since after the tenure of Distinguished Senator Tunde Ogbeha, a gentleman, an advocate of peace, justice, equity and fairness, defender of the people, as Senator in 2007, the Senate seat of Kogi West Senatorial District has been rotated between the Local Government Areas in Okun land, conspicuously, deliberately and intentionally excluding Lokoja and Kogi LGAs, despite our historical political relevance and vibrancy, and capable sons and daughters.

This persistent MARGINALIZATION and OPPRESSION would no longer be acceptable to us (Lokoja-Koto).

Democracy thrives on EQUITY, INCLUSION, and FAIR REPRESENTATION and JUSTICE. Lokoja-Koto has remained patient and supportive of the district’s political direction over the years, contributing meaningfully to the election and reelection of Senators from the OKUN AXIS without bias or resistance. But political patience should not be mistaken for weakness or indifference.

The principle of zoning and power balancing, if sincerely applied, must now favor Lokoja-Koto. The time has come for political actors, traditional institutions, youth groups, women, and community stakeholders from Lokoja-Koto to rise above internal divisions and rally around credible candidates who can articulate and defend the interests of the entire Senatorial District.

The 2027 election presents not just a political opportunity, but a moral obligation, to assert Lokoja-Koto’s rightful claim and contribute a fresh voice to the National Assembly.

We call on Political Parties, especially the dominant ones, to respect the principles of fairness and inclusivity by zoning their Senatorial tickets to Lokoja-Koto. Anything short of that will be a continuation of an outdated pattern of exclusion that undermines the unity and collective development of Kogi West and Kogi State.

Let it be clear: Lokoja-Koto is ready. The people are aware. The tide is shifting. And come 2027, the narrative must change. It’s Lokoja-Koto’s turn 2027.
