Worried about the continued arrest and detention of the publisher of The Policy and Lawmakers Magazine, the Kogi State Council of Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) has called for the unconditional release of Friday Ogungbemi from the custody of the Department of State Security Services (DSS) without further delay.
NUJ made this demand in a press statement signed by Alhaji Ali Atabo and Comrade Adeiza Momoh Jimoh, Chairman and Secretary respectively, in Lokoja yesterday.
The body of Journalists also called on members to boycott state government activities until their demands are met.
The Union described the action of state government and its DSS agents in the last four days as unlawful and wicked. They explained that all efforts by the Union to reach all the concerned government authorities towards resolving the issues failed. They warned that the Union will not condone the continuous harassment, intimidation and threats to Journalists by government or its agents while carrying out their legitimate activities.
The Union frowned at the unfortunate activities of the DSS in making itself a tool in the hands of the Kogi State Government.
