Kogi born businessman and economist, Chief Momoh Yusuf Obaro, has obtained the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination, and expression of interest forms in furtherance of his quest to represent Kogi Central senatorial district in the National Assembly.

The frontline aspirant, who doubles as the Secretary of the APC in the United Kingdom (UK), was among the first set of public office seekers to buy the forms, which was kickstarted Tuesday, 28 April, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The forms were picked for the president by his confidant and national assembly member from Lagos State; James Abiodun Faleke.

Obaro, who was accompanied to Sheraton Hotels where the forms were being sold, by a large crowd of jubilant supporters from his constituency commended the exercise, describing it as hitch-free and transparent.

Obaro, who previously contested for the governorship of Kogi State, said his ambition is driven by a desire to accelerate development in Kogi Central through people-focused and non-controversial representation.

He said he was drawn to politics by his desire to contribute his quota to the development of the country and uplifting the standard of living of the common man.

“The desire to go to the Senate is not about me, really. It is about an age long hunger for a better society. I believe that the task of developing the nation and riding it of the various vices plaguing it belongs to all of us. We can no longer live the future of our country to professional politicians alone. It is time for everyone to join hands to make our country what it ought to be.”

He noted that his decision to contest under the APC aligns with the “Renewed Hope” agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, adding that the district requires quality representation to unlock its full potential.

“Successive administrations have done their best, but much more needs to be achieved. I see myself as the missing link, bringing exposure, intellectual capacity, grassroots support, and the will to make a difference,” Obaro said.

He emphasized his commitment to inclusive governance, pledging to prioritize the needs of women, youths, and vulnerable groups while delivering tangible development outcomes.

Obaro further outlined key areas of focus for his campaign, including provision of pipe-borne water, microfinance support for women burdened by loan schemes, youth empowerment through mini-livestock industries, scholarships, and the establishment of ultra-modern libraries.

In December 2025, he received a unanimous endorsement from the Eziogu Supreme Council of Chiefs, led by the Ozumi of Okene, HRH Haruna Onotu, who described him as a symbol of unity, capacity, and credibility.

Shortly after obtaining his for, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard M. Doro, congratulated Chief Momoh Obaro on being the first aspirant to obtain the Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for Kogi Central Senatorial District in the North Central, the region from which the Minister also hails.

Speaking further, Dr. Doro said: “Chief, I know you can. You have shown capacity as the APC UK Secretary, and your efforts and input took us far. I am confident in your capacity to deliver the dividends of democracy to your people.’

He concluded by stating that: ‘Chief Obaro, you are going to the Senate to show the big difference that we, the APC UK branch, stand for. Congratulations to the good people of Kogi Central Senatorial District and to all members of the APC UK branch.’
