The Niger State House of Assembly, on Thursday in Minna, the state capital, endorsed Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

The Niger state lawmakers said it is the turn of the North Central to produce the next president.

They made this known when the 25 members of the Kogi State House of Assembly, led by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mathew Kolawole paid an advocacy visit to solicit for the support of the members who are APC members for the presidential candidature of Governor Yahaya Bello in 2023.

The 24 members of the Niger State House of Assembly who were present during the advocacy visit resolved to support the ambition of the Governor Yahaya Bello, noting that the North Central region has been sidelined since the return of democracy in 1999.

The members said that there is the need for all the six states in the North Central region to queue behind the aspiration of Yahaya Bello.

They asserted that as a young and vibrant governor, and with the #NotTooYoungToRun bill already assented to by President Buhari, Yahaya Bello remained the best candidate for the number one position in 2023.

After various contributions from the members, all in support of the candidature of Yahaya Bello, the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bawa Wuse submitted that “I will want to adopt all that have been said by my colleagues here today, especially the affirmation of Yahaya Bello for the presidency in 2023. We can assure you of our support for this project”.

Bawa Wuse, however, said that one thing that is key for the success of the project is the need to harmonize the position of the members of the Houses of Assembly of the North Central states, adding that “this must be taken seriously if we must actualize this project.

“We must come together from the North Central states to support this laudable and worthy project for the benefit of the people of the North Central and Nigeria in general.

“We need somebody from the North Central for the Presidency in 2023, so since Governor Yahaya Bello has come out for now, he has our support, he has our endorsement and we will support him.”

Earlier, the Kogi State Assembly Speaker told his colleagues from Niger state that after the endorsement of Governor Yahaya Bello by the Kogi State House of Assembly, “we decided to embark on a nationwide advocacy visit to officially notify and to solicit for the support of States Assembly for Governor Yahaya Bello 2023 Presidential ambition”.
