A civil society organisation, Conscience Nigeria has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, for allegedly sponsoring his presidential ambition with CBN funds.

The group stated that it is an open fact that naira was ₦170 against the dollar before Mr Emefiele’s emergence as the Governor of CBN but due to his weak policies, it is now ₦550 against a dollar and still counting.

They insisted that Emefiele’s ineffectiveness has crashed the Naira to the worst situation ever in Nigeria’s history.

At a press conference in Abuja on Sunday, the group’s Secretary General, Muhammad Hussein, called for immediate removal of the CBN governor so that he can focus on his Presidential ambition, adding that his removal will be a major step towards the fight against corruption.

The group explained that the CBN governor has been sponsoring pseudo groups across the country in the name of urging him to run for president.

“The latest is the branding of thousands of vehicles for his presidential ambition with CBN funds, this is not acceptable and must be condemned by all patriotic Nigerians.

“We will definitely follow up all your corrupt activities that have lead our economy to this regrettable height and you will definitely pay for every damage you’ve done to our economy,” he said.

The group assured that they would not relent on their call for better Nigeria until they have competent hands managing it.

It added that the clamour for a corrupt free Nigeria is on course and Nigerians are not backing out.

The group further urged President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the CBN governor to pave way for better hands that will revive the nation’s economy immediately.
