Ahead of 2023 general elections, the Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution (CHRCR) has called on traditional and political leaders in the central senatorial district of Kogi state to join the advocacy against anti-corruption and violence.
The Executive Director of CHRCR, Comrade Idris Miliki Abdul insisted that vote buying and selling is detrimental to the development of elections.
Miliki made this known while speaking at a one-day multi-stakeholders dialogue for Kogi Central senatorial district on prioritizing anti-corruption and accountability issues towards 2023 elections at state level organized by CHRCR in Okene on Wednesday.
He noted that corruption is widespread and is embedded beyond political and governance, but also in personal and private conduct by citizens.
Miliki, however, tasked citizens to hold the government accountable through their constitutional responsibilities.
·Stakeholders at the meeting expressed concern about early signs of possible instances of political violence in the area.
They stated that an early warning sign that is dangerous in their politics has been witnessed in the Central Senatorial District due to unguarded, inflammatory statements and utterances even within the government institutions, political parties and their candidates.
The stakeholders urged security agencies to take note of these early warning signs by political gladiators and nip it in the bud.
They were unanimous in their call on citizens, political parties, community and traditional leaders to shun political violence and ensure that those identified and involved be held accountable through judicial means.
