Ahead of 2019 general elections, a frontline Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Kogi State, Dr. Idris Omede has called on Nigerians to elect leaders who are roundly humane.
Omede made the call in a goodwill message to Christians to commemorate this year’s Christmas celebrations.
The immediate past President, Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria (APBN) urged Nigerian electorate to make the best use of their permanent voters cards (PVCs) as the nation cannot afford not to get it right in the forthcoming general elections.
“Warm compliments of the seasons. Accept my felicitations for another Christmas season which ushers another new year of 2019. May the coming year signify a better and more prosperous country, Nigeria. In this renewed spirit of greater nationhood, we must strive to ensure that the leadership that we elect at various levels are appropriate.
“We must strive to make the best use of our PVCs, to elect leaders who are roundly humane with the requisite human heart to deploy the necessary human resources for the sustainable good of our people, for the development of the needed infrastructure, social empowerment, the security of lives and property.
“Such leadership must guarantee sustainable job creation, deliver service and create a productive industrial environment for socioeconomic prosperity.

“The leaders should lead the way to good governance and social justice for the common good. The time has come for antisocial political incursion through a broad range of political terrorism and gangsterism to give way for evidence based good governance. These antisocial, anti human political incursions have become sources of national and international embarrassment.
“As a nation, we cannot continue this way if we are to occupy our rightful place in the comity of nations. Our security apparatus and electoral umpires must continually realize that they are holding the mandate and mantle of the people. Therefore they must never be seen to subjugate the wishes of majority of Nigerians for self serving interests.
“We cannot be a welcoming nation where governors and the President are dreaded or disdained for bad governance. Today, more than ever before, Nigerians are fully aware of their compelling needs, to enshrine good governance.
“We Believe that Teaming for Reality, Trust and Restoration will surely Get Nigeria Working Again.
“I humbly implore us all to be part of this emerging and exemplary team, to contribute our quota by putting smiles on the faces of many. Together we can, together we shall and together we will achieve today and for posterity.
“I salute Nigerians as we prepare to usher in a brand new leadership, under a tested and trusted statesman, whose record of achievements are more than remarkable. This is an era of Atiku Abubakar, a pure democrat per excellence, give him the opportunity to serve you. We look forward to a victorious outing at all levels,” he said.
Omede, a past President Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) and former Commissioner of Health in Kogi state, appealed to Kogi electorate to embrace the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar for a positive turnaround in the fortunes of the nation.
