Judiciary is an indispensable organ of government. Its importance cannot be over emphasized.
Any society without a judiciary system is bound to face chaos and anarchy. In a nation where the judiciary is weak or not independent its people might be confronted with injustice and all kinds of intimidation.
Ineffective judiciary system is capable of throwing the entire nation into confusion. A moribund judiciary organ is not healthy for the development of democracy in Nigeria. It is worthy to note that almost every sector in Nigeria have cracks. And for democracy to drive well there must be an independent judiciary.
The recent development and happening in judiciary should be a cause of concern to the well-meaning Nigerians. A situation where Courts of coordinate jurisdictions would give diferent judgement on a particular case is worrisome.
What also worried me is when the lower Courts give judgement without recourse to the precedence of the highest court in the land (Supreme Court). For example, Supreme Court set a precedent in a case between Governor Darius Ishaku of PDP and Mama Taraba of APC that a candidate from the opposing party has no business to question the validity of the party primary that produced his/her opponent. But, contrary to the judicial Precedence above, the Court of Appeal sacked the two Senators representing Kogi East and Kogi Central who both won their election on the platform of APC. Some House of Assembly members were also affected as well. As we wait for the Supreme Court decision on this matter, let me refer you to the latest conflicting decisions by Court of coordinate jurisdictions, where Federal High Court in Lagos gave an order stopping PDP from conducting elections into some certain offices. But, in swift reaction, the High Court in Porthacourt gave a counter order recognising the Caretaker Chairman led by Ahmed Makarfi faction and last Friday, Federal High Court in Abuja has once again directed INEC to recognise Sheriff led faction. All these judgements and orders were all given by Federal High Court in different zones.
Today, we have a President who truly want to do things the right way irrespective of who’s ox is gored, but he needs an upright and unbiased judiciary to actualise his plans for the country.
It is on this note, am craving the indulgence of the relevant authorities to rise up to the occasion in sanitising judiciary by sanctioning the erring judges who are tools in the hands of politicians.
Conclusively, if truly we want peace, then, we must ensure justice and equity in the land because that to a large extent will bring peace to the society.
Just expressing myself.
