MATTER OF URGENT PUBLIC IMPORTANCE CALLING ON THE STATE TO COME TO THE AID OF ANKPA PEOPLE OVER EROSION MENACE
The Rt. Honourable speaker, Distinguish colleagues, over the years, the people of Ankpa 1 constituency has been badly threatened by Erosion Menace. This problem had adversely affected agricultural productivity as our farms lands and crops have been washed away. It has affected our economic activities, our houses, schools; places of worships, etc are all in serious threats once it rains. We sleep with one eye closed. In fact, the greatest threat to the environmental setting of Ankpa LGA is the gradual but constant dissection of the landscape by soil erosion. We have more than 50 erosion sites in Ankpa LGA and these pose serious threats to lives and properties of the people living in these communities concerned.
Just last week, the major township road (Ankpa-Oturkpo road) was badly affected by erosion and the speed at which this road which link communities and states together is being eroded is a source of grave concern to residents and motorist plying that route.
As a Local government, we cannot handle these challenges alone and still carry on with other responsibilities.
PRAYERS
Be it resolved by this honourable house as follows;
1. That the state government immediately mobilize State Emergency Management Agency to the affected road in Ankpa to prevent it from taking over the whole road.
2. That the state government also adopt a holistic approach to tackling these challenges in other affected areas.
