Zakito Inaugurates AIDS Diagnosing Facilities

The chairman of Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area, Comrade Zakito Umar has commended Eight Care Foundation for establishing Aids Healthcare Foundation (AHF) facilities for testing HIV and diagnosing AIDS patients in the area.

Comrade Zakito who was represented at the occasion by the Secretary to the Local Government, Com. Aliyu Hawa Musa, stated that the establishment of the centre in the area would go a long way to reduce the suffering of their people who travelled to other neighboring local government areas to access the service.

He assured of the readiness of the local government to send some of its staff to the centre so as to enable it render more effective service to the people.

In their separate speeches, the country programme manager of the organisation, Dr. Tayo Towolami, and the state AIDS programme manager, Mrs. Akerejola, lamented that the local government was lagging behind, stressing that out of the 21 local government areas in the state, only Igalamela has no AIDS centre and urged the workers to maintain the facilities at the centre.

Also speaking  at the occasion, the cordinator of the Local Government Action Committee on AIDS (LACA), Mr. Peter  Ejogbo,  and the medical officer  in charge of the  clinic,  Dr. Nwankwo Malachi, thanked the organization for establishing the centre and assured  that they would do everything  possible to ensure the success of the programme in the area.

They further stated that they would carry out adequate sensitization and awareness creation to enable the people patronize the centre in order to safe them the cost of travelling to other places to avail themselves of the service.
